This small boutique carries a surprisingly selection of fine jewelry, including some very beautiful antique pieces. I always stop to look in the window when I'm passing, so when my boyfriend and I started talking about getting married, we made a requisite stop at Elleven. We found a beautiful 1920's antique ring which he snuck back later to purchase. Though they sized it before he presented it to me (it was too small for my fourth finger initially), I ended up needing it sized a bit smaller. Knowing that I hated to part with my engagement ring which I had just received, they gave it prompt attention and resized it right away! It was a tricky ring to size since it sits up high off the finger, so I asked them to resize it a touch once again, and they were extremely accommodating and thoughtful, once again doing the work very quickly and never making it seem like an imposition or a chore.
We have since been working on creating the right wedding bands. As we are both designers, we are possibly deranged in our pickiness and discernment of detail. We received some old wedding bands from family members which we wanted to use in forging our bands. I found it's really damn hard to find someone willing to work with you on using your own gold, and having the making of the bands be more of a collaborative process (rather than picking out of a catalog). Nisim was very honest about what was possible (limitations due to using the old bands), and open to working with us to make sure we got bands that we would be entirely happy with (even though utilizing the old rings wasn't something that he typically did). He is almost done with our bands, and we are really happy that we went back to Elleven. It's great being able to interact directly with a small, local jeweler.

Astro Gallery of Gems Review
The Astro Gallery is truly an amazing place. It came as a total surprise to me to find a rock store in the middle of Manhattan, and little unsuspecting geologist that I am, I couldn't be happier to have found it. It also has a fantastic lower level and very unique and stunning jewelry.
The lower level is a museum, essentially. You can buy the pieces, and they're practically untouchable price-wise, but are definitely worth it if you can appreciate the majesty of a 6" flawless watermelon tourmaline crystal or a scolecite puff the size of a basketball. It's so cool just to look and marvel at the wonderful things nature has produced. They have a ton of rarer species of minerals, and all are top gem quality. They've also got HUGE specimens. By huge, I mean CAR SIZED quartz clusters, 8 foot tall amethyst cathedrals and a calcite sphere at least 4' in diameter. It's insane that these things even exist!
On the street level, the gallery is full of smaller cabinet-sized and smaller specimens, tumbles, and rough that can be purchased by the pound. The jewelry available is in mostly sterling silver but they do have a variety of finer gold pieces in the back.

Ivanka Trump Jewelry Review
I didn't know Ivanka Trump designed jewelry. I wandered in here, or should I say it was decided by the doorman that I was dressed reasonably nice enough to possibly afford to make a purchase, looking for her shoes and purses which I love. To my amazement, I was faced with stunning pieces of vintage chic jewelry designed by the fabulous Ivanka. I absolutely love her style and the pieces she selected for her collection. The store is on the small side but in this part of town space is limited.
The saleswoman who approached us was very friendly and not at all condescending like they can sometimes be in stores like this. Even though we weren't there to buy, she offered her business card to us (maybe because I hinted to my boyfriend that he could buy my engagement ring here!). As I browsed around I noticed they have a cappuccino machine and bottles of champagne on ice. Buying anything here would certainly be an experience you won't soon forget. The saleswoman also entered me into their monthly drawing from which you'd get to choose any piece of jewelry in the store. Please, God, PLEASE let them pick my name!!

Cellini Jewelers Review
I've always loved the lobby of the Waldorf Astoria, and on this trip, while walking around, the most beautiful diamond ring I've ever seen was staring back at me in the window. My man and I walked in and were greeted by a very nice British gentleman. He was VERY nice, and we ended up talking to him for about 20 minutes while I browsed the jewelry.
Considering the fact that an engagement was going to be at some point in the future, we looked at some rings, although I wanted to see the big one in the window. He gladly took it out and showed it to me...and even let me try it on. 3/4's of a million dollars was on my finger for 10 minutes. It was a great moment. I have a feeling my man will probably be back here for my engagement ring when the time comes.
Cellini, the purveyors of fine watches and fancy jewels is a great place to pick up lavish gifts for you and your loved ones. I recently picked up a rare piece of ceramic + tantulum goodness with the thought of having to wait months but was surprised by a call the following week. Unlike Tourneau, where you will often find incompetent and pushy sales staff. The people at Cellini are always patient and helpful, Joel will be a pleasure to deal if you are planning to buy yourself a watch
